Sometimes people just have a talent that is undeniable. One of my favorite new singers in the game is Jasmine Sullivan, and this footage of her playing Dorothy in "The Wiz" at age 11 shows & proves the concept of being "born to do this". The trill at 2:49 gives me goosebumps. No lie.

Who needs lyrics when you can evoke this kind of emotion with melody alone? Honestly one of the most beautiful themes ever recorded for a film. Believe me when I say that this piece will long outlive the film that it was written for, as "classic" as it might be considered.

Bonus Info: Taylormade & I produced a song that sampled this years ago. I wrote the lyrics as a dedication to my girl at the time...who later became my wife. Thanks, Mr. Evans. I thought I'd share the original after all these years.

6 years ago, I saw SADE twice during her Lover's Rock tour (once in Jersey, and again in a pre-Katrina New Orleans). These were two of the most amazing live music experiences I've had to this day. Can't believe the new album is about to drop in a month!

This group Improv Everywhere, is known for going out and causing crazy scenes in NYC. This, in my opinion, is one of their greatest accomplishments. They got over 200 people to "spontaneously" freeze on cue in the middle of rush hour at Grand Central Station. Personally, if I'd wandered into this scene at the time, I probably would've been pretty bugged out. Check it:

Rheturik, Mas D, and I were always in our elementary school's chorus growing up. As a matter of fact, we still give tons of credit to our former choral director Barbara Ames for inspiring us to pursue music (not to mention teaching us how to harmonize). The P.S. 22 chorus here in NY always has an interesting song choice up there sleeves. This one is a song from one of my favorites, BJORK. Their rendition of "Joga" is amazing. My Favorite Things

One of my favorite meals on Earth is known simply as the "Carol C." For those who haven't been initiated, the Carol C. is a combination platter from Roscoe's Chicken & Waffles in Los Angeles, CA. It consists of 1 waffle and 1 fried chicken breast, and it is unbelievable. Pair it with a Sweet Tea and prepare to head into Southern-fried orbit. The waffles at Roscoe's are made from their "own private mix". I have tried, on several occasions, to leave the restaurant with a bag of said mix. However, both times that I made this request I was laughed at, so I guess I won't be asking again. The mix creates the lightest, crispiest, most buttery waffles I've ever tasted. Paired with a crunchy and juicy fried chicken breast, the combo is extremely unique (not to mention BANGIN'). I can't set foot in L.A. without making sure that I hit Roscoe's at least once. I know that Los Angeles is the land of the fit, but believe me when I say that you're cheating yourself if you haven't given Roscoe's a shot.

While there are plenty of officers that do a good job both protecting & serving, there are also plenty that just don't know when to stop. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. This genius pulled a gun on a crowd of D.C. citizens engaged in the most innocent of winter pastimes: the snowball fight.

Recently I was out in Cali on tour with Dujeous & my man Mazzi from S.O.U.L Purpose. Whenever we're on the road, it seems that we always get these urges to try strange and unusual foods that we might not be able to get at home. What can I say? The Duj is adventurous.
Well the last time we stopped at a gas station in Humboldt County, we found some really interesting snacks there (and they didn't even have any weed in them...at least I don't think they did.) On the counter was a small display for a company called Barry's Theatre Cookies. These cookies looked really interesting for a few reasons. First off, the packaging made it apparent that these were homemade sweets. Secondly, there were the flavors. Strange...strange flavors. The Black & Tan, Key Lime Cornmeal, Pecan French Toast, Maple Bacon Snickerdoodle...hold up. Maple BACON? In a cookie? Unfortunately, X-Clan has kept me away from pork since I was 13 years old. Sam Jackson said it best in Pulp Fiction. The pig is a filthy animal. Ha!
I opted for the Key Lime Cornmeal. The crumbly texture, real citrus accents, and abundance of butter was just what the doctor ordered. We were in Humboldt after all.

...but director Chris Nolan definitely gets me out to the flicks (do I need to pause that again, or is that just too immature?). Following up The Dark Knight with a mysterious project with some form of sci-fi element...and Leonardo DiCaprio. Well, 1 out of 2 ain't bad. I've been on board with this guy's films ever since his little-seen mindbender, Following. His Batman movies are pretty damn dope, but it's the smaller films like Memento and Insomnia that really get me excited. This one seems to be a character driven piece along those lines with a litttle bit of "Prestige" thrown in for good measure. All I know is that I'll be there with popcorn. 1st look at the poster below.

The Rossini Is Real

A few nights ago, I rolled out to Les Halles for an impromptu dinner for Apex's B-day. I'd been there before, and I've always gotten a steak option. This time, being in the mood, I opted for their Hamburger Rossini. On the menu it's described as a "ground-to-order burger topped with a slice of foie gras," and when it arrived I wasn't disappointed in the least.

A supremely juicy burger, cooked to perfection, sat on a fresh brioche bun. Sitting on top of the burger (where the cheese usually would be) was a chocolate brown slice of melted goodness (read: foie gras). Now I know a lot of folks aren't into foie gras but, frankly, those folks aren't my friends. The subtleties of the rich foie mixed with the lean medium rare burger were unbelievable. But that was just the beginning. This burger came with a dip, much thicker than jus-consistency, and flavored with a deep red wine and black truffles. No ketchup required. Those that know my style understand that that is huge. I'm a traditionalist. Burgers get ketchup, as do fries (unless there's a nice dijon nearby). Needless to say, with the flavors happening on my plate, the Heinz went unopened.
